Montague Township

Montague Township is a township in Sussex County, New Jersey, in the New York City Metropolitan Area. As of the 2010 United States Census, the township’s population was 3,847, reflecting an increase of 435 from the 3,412 counted in the 2000 Census. Found in Montague Township is the highest elevation within New Jersey at an altitude of 1,803 feet (550 m) above sea level. Montague is also the northernmost municipality in the state of New Jersey. Most of the area of Montague Township is public lands, primarily High Point State Park, Stokes State Forest, and Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area. Montague is known for its scenery and wildlife; summer sports in the area include hiking, biking, camping (both public and private campgrounds are available), and fishing. There are no traffic lights in Montague because it’s a rural township. Before it had its own post office, Montague residents would get their mail delivered through the zip code for Port Jervis, New York, so some residents had a New York mailing address with a New Jersey driver’s license. How crazy! 

 While in Montague Township, New Jersey, you can find something to do at the lovely Luna Parc specialty museum. It’s described as a 30-year ongoing art project hidden in the backwoods of New Jersey. The creator, Ricky, lives in the art project’s house, and he allows people to come and see the project during the week.
